Aluminium Bahrain, known as Alba, runs one of the world’s largest single-site aluminium smelters at Askar in the south-east of Bahrain. After its Line 6 potline was inaugurated in 2019, the smelter’s yearly capacity rose to more than 1.5 million tonnes. A plant this size never stops, and Alba Aluminium Bahrain plant jobs attract technicians, operators and engineers from across the region.
We are not claiming a new batch of vacancies has just opened. Alba recruits on an ongoing basis for its potlines, casthouse, carbon plant, power stations and maintenance departments, and contractors also hire for project, relining and maintenance work. This guide explains how both routes work.
This is an independent informational guide, not Alba’s official website. Alba places strong emphasis on developing Bahraini nationals, so we also explain what that means for foreign applicants. Never pay anyone for a smelter job.

About Alba in Bahrain
Alba was incorporated in 1968 and poured its first aluminium in 1971, making it one of the oldest smelters in the Gulf. Bahrain’s sovereign wealth fund Mumtalakat owns 70%, Saudi mining company Ma’aden holds 20% after buying SABIC’s stake in early 2025, and around 10% is publicly traded. Alba reported about 3,179 employees in 2024.
The site includes several potlines, carbon plants for anodes, casthouses producing ingots, billets and slabs, a marine terminal and its own power stations. Alba is known for promoting Bahraini staff – it reported promoting more than 2,000 employees over five years – and many direct jobs are filled by Bahraini nationals, often through training and development programmes.

Can Indians and Other Foreign Workers Apply?
Yes, but understand the two routes. Alba’s own permanent roles are largely filled by Bahraini nationals in line with its Bahrainisation and leadership development focus, although specialist expatriate roles can appear when specific expertise is needed. Check each listing for nationality requirements.
Many expatriate technicians and craftsmen work at Askar through contractors handling maintenance, pot relining, construction and services. In that case, the contractor is your employer and must obtain your LMRA work permit. An interview call is not a visa, and never assume sponsorship before a written offer and an issued permit. Recruitment costs should be paid by the employer, not you.
