For many ITI and polytechnic students, the first job does not come from a big online portal. It comes from a placement drive held at their own institute, an apprenticeship mela at the nearest government ITI, or a district job fair. Knowing how these campus routes work, and how to prepare for them, can make the difference between getting shortlisted and being left waiting.
Campus and mela-based hiring is most active near industrial clusters such as Gurugram–Manesar and Bawal in Haryana, Pune and Aurangabad in Maharashtra, Sanand and Vadodara in Gujarat, Hosur, Chennai and Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu, Bengaluru’s Bidadi belt, and Jamshedpur in Jharkhand. Companies in these areas need a steady flow of trained young technicians.
The main routes are: the placement or training cell at your ITI or polytechnic, Pradhan Mantri National Apprenticeship Melas (PMNAM), state and district rozgar melas, and company programmes that tie up directly with institutes. This is an independent guide, not the website of any institute, government department or company.

About Campus Placement for ITI and Diploma Students
Most ITIs and polytechnics have a training and placement officer who invites companies to the campus, collects student data and arranges tests and interviews. Large manufacturers prefer this route because they can test many trained candidates in one day. Some companies go further and partner with ITIs directly – Maruti Suzuki, for example, reported training over 12,000 ITI students in FY24 through its ITI programmes.
Outside the campus, the government runs PM National Apprenticeship Melas, which were designed to be held on the second Monday of each month at many locations. Public and private establishments meet candidates and can select apprentices on the spot. A December 2025 mela at Government ITI Panaji in Goa, for instance, invited ITI holders and local youth to report directly at the venue.
Types of Campus Placement Routes
Institute Placement Cell Drives
Companies visit your ITI or polytechnic for tests and interviews. Ask your placement officer to register you and keep your marks and documents updated.
PM National Apprenticeship Mela (PMNAM)
One-day apprenticeship melas usually held at government ITIs and skill offices. Candidates with a Class 5–12 pass certificate, skill certificate, ITI or degree can attend.
State and District Rozgar Melas
State employment and skill departments organise job fairs where local employers and staffing companies recruit. Many are announced on the National Career Service portal and state portals.
Company Earn-and-Learn Programmes
Programmes like Tata Motors Kaushalya and Toyota Kirloskar’s Kaushalya learn-and-earn model combine plant training with a stipend and a qualification.
Diploma Trainee Drives
Polytechnic students are recruited as Diploma Engineer Trainees, for example by Reliance for electrical, mechanical and instrumentation branches.
Pool Campus Drives
Several nearby institutes send students to one venue, which is common when a company needs large numbers.

Campus Placement Tips for Freshers
Most campus offers for freshers are apprenticeships or trainee roles, not permanent jobs on day one. That is normal. Treat the first year as paid training and focus on learning, attendance and safety record, which are what supervisors look at when deciding who to retain.
Your ITI or diploma marks matter, because many companies set cut-offs before the test. Practical skills matter even more on the day: you may be asked to measure a part with a vernier, wire a simple circuit or explain a safety sign.
Before accepting, understand the terms. Ask the duration of the programme, the stipend or salary, who your employer is on paper, and what happens after the programme ends.
Earn-and-Learn and Training Programs
Some company programmes recruit heavily from ITIs and 12th pass students.
Tata Motors Kaushalya Earn & Learn
For ages 18–23 with a 2-year ITI or 12th pass. Trainees are enrolled under NAPS through an apprenticeship partner, train at Tata Motors plants (Pune, Jamshedpur, Lucknow, Pantnagar, Sanand, Dharwad) and work towards a diploma in mechatronics, with no fees.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor Programmes
Toyota runs the Toyota Technical Training Institute, set up in 2007, and a two-year Kaushalya learn-and-earn model combining classroom and on-the-job training.
Maruti Suzuki ITI Programmes
Maruti Suzuki partners with ITIs for training and lists ITI apprentice (1 year) and flexi workmen openings for Gurgaon and Manesar on its careers page.
